Apple CEO Tim Cook Says He Owns Bitcoin

Tim Cook, the CEO of technology behemoth Apple, finally weighed in his opinion on bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. It turns out Apple is looking into cryptocurrencies, while its chief executive, Mr. Cook, is personally invested in bitcoin and digital assets.

In more detail, cryptocurrency is part of Tim Cook’s personal investments. Speaking at the DealBook Online Summit on Tuesday, Mr. Cook replied in the affirmative when asked if he owned bitcoin.

“Do you own crypto, or any bitcoin, or Ethereum,” Andrew Ross Sorkin asked the Apple CEO. “I do, yes, I think it’s reasonable to own it as a part of a diversified portfolio.” In addition, while he has been “interested in crypto for a while”, he said he wouldn’t give people investment advice.

“I’ve been researching it and I think it’s interesting,” Mr. Cook also said.

Apple is “Looking at Crypto”

On the topic of Apple being interested in bitcoin and crypto assets, Tim Cook said the company is “looking at it”. It’s important to note that the tech giant wouldn’t presently invest its cash reserves into bitcoin. However, Tim Cook said, “there are other things that we are definitely looking at.”

Mr. Cook’s comments on crypto and his personal decision to hold digital assets highlight the wide-scale adoption currently unfolding. More importantly, it shows how big tech chief executives shift from traditional stocks to cryptocurrencies.

The List of Bitcoin-Friendly CEOs Keeps Growing

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is perhaps the first name that comes to mind when thinking of chief executives invested in bitcoin. Mr. Musk is personally invested in the original cryptocurrency but also SpaceX and Tesla hold bitcoin on their balance sheets.

Other notable examples include Michael Saylor, the CEO of MicroStrategy. The software company holds more than 114,000 BTC. Jack Dorsey is also among the most prominent Bitcoin bulls. His companies Twitter and Square are both highly involved in bitcoin and are actively working toward mainstream acceptance.
